SYSTEM.NOTICE // THE QUESTION

Why be one when you can be all?

On the fig tree

This analogy comes from one of my favourite writers, Sylvia Plath — born in Boston in 1932, and the author of The Bell Jar, published in 1963, the year she died at thirty.

In it, her narrator pictures her future as a fig tree. Every fig is a different life she could have: a husband and children, a famous poet, a professor, a traveller, a set of lovers whose names she doesn’t know yet. She sits in the crotch of that tree, starving, because choosing one fig means letting all the others fall. So she chooses nothing, and watches them shrivel and drop one by one.

This is my rewrite of that ending. The tree doesn't ask you to choose. It just keeps fruiting. Embrace all of your mediums — let them all grow on the same tree.

Siani Brown, MPH

Public Health Strategist — Somatic Creative Director

Hi, I'm Siani, welcome to my world! Before I start yapping about myself, I wanted to comment on why I decided to build my page this way (yes I built this with Claude :))

I have always been fascinated by human behavior and the question “WHY” — something that children ask all of the time.

When I first taught myself how to make my first website, it did not reflect the full version of me, which as you can see wears many hats. I am wondering “WHY” social media, portfolios, and personal websites have begun to feel mundane and not reflect the world of the individual we are stepping into. This is my attempt to reclaim such a fun and expressive opportunity, and I hope it encourages you to do the same if you are here! POST REAL AGAIN! BE FREE, WE MISS YOU! :)

Now… about me — you may be wondering how I may be able to be all of these things or do them. The truth is, I've always been an individual that has gravitated towards many different pursuits and interests in life, hence the Fig Tree. Case in point: as a Division I athlete, I was also the girl who'd show up to practice in a full face of makeup from a photoshoot I'd done hours earlier — because I've always believed you can have beauty and brains, and love every single thing you love, all at once. In my life, I have tried to force myself into boxes that not only did not fit, but were not me. I believe we are not the things we do, but they are a part of us; so although I label what I have done, I hope this page allowed you to learn all of the things that are a part of me and my world.

I have a Masters of Public Health in Policy, two bachelor's degrees in Psychology and English Literature, and a minor in Sociology. I have spoken to hundreds of professionals, athletes, and humans about all the things that are important to me; holistic health, Black intersectional identity, athletic burnout, women's hormonal health, the intersection of Eastern tradition and health, and much more, found in my resume at the bottom of this.

I have sat on 7 boards and counting for topics that include health and wellness, mental health of student athletes, Black mental health, youth mental health, and much more.

I've also spoken on national stages such as The White House, a United Nations powered event, The Black Student-Athlete Summit, and The Real Mental Health Summit.

Outside of work — I love fashion and expressing myself through my hair, my clothes, and makeup. I love art of all mediums (add me on Letterboxd), I am a nature lover, a yogi, a traveler, a thrill seeker, a chai latte lover. I also love architecture, and my favorite architect is Javier Senosiain. I love mid-century design and retro-futurism if you can't tell.

I'll happily talk your ear off about quantum physics, the universe, or whatever spiritual rabbit hole I've fallen into that week. I'm deep in a yoga and meditation practice right now, and am currently teaching myself sound healing.

My favorite artist in the universe is Tame Impala (Kevin Parker), and a close second, Lana Del Rey. I love alternative and indie funk music.

I have my own business which you can check out on the “IMMERSIVE HEALTH LLC” section.

Lastly, because I know you're wondering — I am an Aquarius sun, Aries moon, Cancer rising, Pisces venus, and I have an Aries stellium (I hope you know what that means :))

Thank you for reading about me and joining me on my site — I hope we get to work together soon! :)
